「北アイルランド紛争」の始まりを10代の半ばで迎えた彼は、自身は武装勢力の武装活動とは無縁だったにも関わらず、およそ想定されえないほどめちゃくちゃな形でその「紛争」に巻き込まれ、自分がやってもいないことによって15年を獄中で過ごすことになりました。世に言う「ギルフォード・フォー」の冤罪事件。

ベルファストからロンドンに彼を助けにきたお父さんも、武装活動の濡れ衣を着せられて無茶苦茶な有罪判決を受け、投獄。そのまま獄中で亡くなりました。
